Pang on a Caanoo

To properly enjoy Pang one would either need an original 1989 arcade machine or at least some sort of 8- or 16-bit micro. Portability, let alone gaming in a bus, would as a result suffer, and this is why Caanoo owners should feel privileged. They have a lovely version of Pang available on their machine and it wont cost them a thing. Provided they follow this link that is.

PlayStation Emulation for Wiz/Caanoo

I still remember reading about the amazing specs of the then-forthcoming original PlayStation and being thoroughly impressed. Never thought the day would come when the PSOne would be considered a retro machine, but, well, time does indeed fly. On a happier note, both you and I can now enjoy the games of this classic console on your/our highly portable Wiz and/or Caanoo handhelds. For free! Just follow this PCSX4ALL link and  download the emulator. It works much better than expected.

Caanoo PC Engine emulation

The PC Engine (a.k.a. the TurboGrafx-16 in the US) was a particularly powerful 8-bit games console with 16-bit bits, that was both incredibly popular in Japan and a brilliant platform for arcade conversions. It even managed a couple handheld versions of itself, though you really don't have to go looking for them. There's a much cheaper alternative, as the open-source Caanoo handheld can now emulate the PC Engine for free, via the just released Caanoo-HUGO. Download it here.

Play Warcraft on your Caanoo

WarcraftThe original Warcraft, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, was the RTS that put Blizzard on the gaming map, ages before it evolved into an MMORPG-crafting corporate behemoth. What's more, Warcraft was more than jsut a Dune II rip-off and I'd easily consider it one of the more interesting RTS offerings I've ever enjoyed. Oh, and you can play it on the go too, provided of course you own a Caanoo, have access to the games original files and click here.

A CPC for your Caanoo

The 8-bit Amstrad CPC, both in its 464 and 6128 variants, was a fantastic home computer, that was wildly popular in Europe and sported an amazing catalog of gaming software. Then again you know that; if not please do read this lovely Amstrad retrospective and come back. Happily those proud owners of the Caanoo handheld can now play through said catalog on the go via the rather excellent and absolutely freeware Cap32 (a.k.a. Caprice32) emulator.

Cap32 emulates every classic CPC model you'd care mention (464, 664, 6128) and even sports some rather impressive features to enhance your retro gaming experience. Think cheats, save states, memory monitors and more. What's more you can discover and download hundreds of games for free via CPC Game Reviews.

Ken's Labyrinth for free

Some of the earlier and more historic games that helped the FPS become the behemoth genre it currently is, remain both interesting and extremely fun to play, as anyone who has recently enjoyed a game of Ken's Labyrinth will tell you. Even more so, when played in a shiny new handheld console for free. You can grab the Wiz / Caanoo version of the game here.

Meet the GPH Caanoo

gamepark caanoocaanoo gphGPH should stop releasing new handhelds every second year and start supporting its rich line of existing ones a bit better. No, really, I mean it, despite being perfectly happy with my WiZ. Anyway. What you see above are pics of the soon-to-be released Caanoo handheld. You can preorder one and find out (a bit) more here.
